Advantages of Mobile C-arm CT Systems: Precision 3D Imaging and Accurate Localization
Mobile C-arm CT: Industry Commonly Known as “Intraoperative CT”
The Perlove Medical mobile C-arm CT system, commonly referred to as “intraoperative CT” in the industry, provides high-definition 2D and 3D imaging within the operating room. By scanning, it quickly generates 3D stereoscopic images of the skeleton during surgery and offers cross-sectional, sagittal, and coronal CT-like views, helping physicians to more accurately diagnose lesions and plan surgical treatments.
According to the “Medical Device Classification Catalog” by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), mobile C-arm X-ray machines are classified under different categories. C-arms with “digital tomosynthesis” or “digital subtraction angiography” functions are managed under Class III registration. Other C-arms used for fluoroscopy and imaging in surgical procedures are managed under Class II registration.
Digital Tomosynthesis (DTS) is a new tomographic imaging method developed based on the geometric principles of traditional tomography (CT), combined with flat-panel detector technology and digital image reconstruction algorithms. The DTS function in C-arm products is commonly referred to as “mobile C-arm CT” technology in the industry.
Currently, international brands of mobile C-arm CT (Siemens, Ziehm) have Class III medical device registrations. Perlove Medical is a domestic brand that has obtained the Class III medical device registration for C-arms in China.
Application of Mobile C-arm CT in Orthopedic Surgery
Joints are a crucial anatomical basis for limb movement and play a decisive role in limb function. Therefore, during surgical treatment, it is essential not only to ensure the accuracy of fracture reduction or prosthesis stability but also to restore the joint’s full function as much as possible to improve the patient’s quality of life. In orthopedic surgery, mobile C-arm CT systems are mainly used for joint replacement and anatomical reduction positioning in the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee joints. The system assists in the precise placement of prostheses, reduces radiation time, and lowers radiation dose.
Application of Mobile C-arm CT in Spine Surgery
In orthopedic surgery, spine surgery demands high precision due to the complex anatomical structure of the spine. The mobile C-arm CT system visualizes this process, providing accurate 2D and 3D images during surgery. This enhances the accuracy of screw placement, shortens surgery time, and reduces the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications.
Application of Mobile C-arm CT in Trauma Surgery
Mobile C-arm CT systems are also widely used in trauma surgery. Since many trauma surgery patients are in critical condition with limited preoperative preparation time, emergency surgery is often required. Mobile C-arm CT can reconstruct 3D images in real-time during surgery, allowing surgeons to better understand complex fractures and immediately adjust screw placement, enhancing the accuracy of fixation and reducing the likelihood of complications, thereby minimizing screw placement time.
In previous surgeries, situations often arose where a CT scan post-surgery revealed the need for adjustments to the surgical outcome, often requiring reoperation or modifications. The intraoperative 3D imaging provided by the mobile C-arm CT system can integrate this step into the surgical workflow, effectively reducing risks for both the medical staff and patients, and ensuring the success of the surgery.
