What do I need to pay attention to when purchasing a 3D C-arm?

Mobile C-arm X-ray machine is composed of X-ray generating device, X-ray imaging device and ancillary equipment, etc. It is suitable for medical institutions to carry out X-ray fluoroscopy and photography during surgery, and some C-arms also have three-dimensional imaging function. Three-dimensional C-arm, commonly known in the industry as “intraoperative CT”, can quickly generate cross-sectional, sagittal, coronal tomographic images and three-dimensional stereo images during surgery, which enables doctors to utilize real-time three-dimensional images during surgery, more intuitive and realistic approach to the affected area, and enhance the efficiency and accuracy of surgery.

In recent years, with the popularization of the concepts of digital orthopedics, precision medicine and minimally invasive medicine, the market demand for 3D C-arms is increasing day by day. Choosing a suitable 3D C-arm requires considering the performance of the equipment along with the economic benefits. To this end, I give you a summary of the usual orthopedic surgeons are more concerned about the four major demand points for your reference.

First, three-dimensional C-arm registration certificate category

National Drug Administration (NMPA) is now implemented in the 2017 “Medical Device Classification Catalog”, “mobile C-arm X-ray machine” category, with “digital tomography” or “digital subtraction C-arms with the function of “digital tomography” or “digital subtraction angiography” are managed according to the Class III registration certificate. Other C-arms used for surgical fluoroscopy and photography, and obtaining images for clinical diagnosis are managed under Class II registration.

At present, foreign three-dimensional C-arm brands such as Siemens, Ziehmu, are three-class medical device registration certificate, and Perlove medical is the first to get the three-dimensional C three-class registration certificate of the domestic brands.

The larger the detector size, the larger the intraoperative 3D imaging field of view, showing more image information. Perlove medical 3D C-arm adopts 30cm×30cm dynamic flat panel detector, outputting high-resolution and large-size 3D images, which can shoot the whole cervical vertebrae, the whole lumbar vertebrae, the seven thoracic vertebrae, the bilateral sacroiliac joints, the femoral head and the unilateral pelvic bone at one time, compared with the small field of view of the C-arm, avoiding multiple shots caused by more eating radiation and time wastage.

Currently on the market three-dimensional C-arm frame design can be commonly divided into isocentric and variable isocentric two. Variable isocenter rack’s motion trajectory is elliptical, the acquisition process, the whole process of adjusting the movement, to maintain the relative position of the ray and lesion points, movement artifacts, image blurring; isocenter rack’s three-dimensional C-arm motion trajectory is a positive circle, always keep the main body of the shooting in the center of the ray beam, to avoid C-arm rack in the direction of non-rotation of the movement from the roots to reduce motion artifacts, image clearer.

In recent years, orthopedic surgical robots have been more and more widely used in clinics, and 3D images are the basis of the surgical execution of the robotic system, with the dual roles of map localization and effect checking, which make the surgical execution more accurate and the verification of surgical effect more guaranteed.

The cooperation between 3D C-arm and orthopedic surgical robot is mainly for some difficult and complex surgeries in the clinical application of surgery nowadays, especially in spinal surgery and other clinical surgeries with higher requirements for surgical accuracy, such as thoracic and lumbar screws, cervical screws placement, pelvis and other clinical surgeries.

Perlove Medical is a manufacturer of “3D C-arm + orthopedic surgical robot” full-process solution. The self-developed 3D C-arm (with independent core intellectual property rights) and orthopedic surgical robot can be used together to assist doctors in preoperative planning for spine surgery, accurate nail placement during surgery and other operations. With the integrated adaptive alignment technology, automatic alignment and registration can be realized. The alignment process does not require manual intervention and the accuracy is not affected by image quality. The system is more compatible, the information is more accurately matched, and the alignment process is more convenient.
